BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport

A new and exciting course for students who have a passion for participating in and studying sport.  Students will have the  opportunity to extend their knowledge in a variety of areas within sport, including anatomy and physiology, leadership, and sport psychology.

Students will have the opportunity to specialise in specific areas of sport such as leadership/ coaching and personal fitness training. Students will work with enthusiastic and motivated teachers who have a real passion for sport and success.  This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

 

What is the structure of the course?

Students will complete four units over the two year course.  Two will be assessed externally and two internally.

Mandatory Units

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Fitness training for health, sport and well-being
  • Professional development in the sport industry

One Optional Unit*

  • Sport leadership
  • Sport psychology
  • Practical sports performance

*Optional units will be delivered based on the cohort and staffing.

 

What skill/requirements are essential?

Students must be hard-working, enthusiastic, resilient and passionate about sport. Also an interest in personal health and coaching of sport would be desirable.

 

Where can this course lead?

The sporting industry has grown significantly over the past few years and continues to expand with numerous job opportuni-ties. These include: personal fitness trainer; PE teacher; sports coach; midwives; police officer; and sport business develop-ment officer. For learners who wish to study an aspect of sport in higher education, course opportunities include:  sport busi-ness, sport psychology and sport and exercise science.
