The Physical Education A-Level is made up of six Theoretical Sections – Exercise Physiology, Skill Acquisition, Sport and Society, Sports Psychology, Biomechanics and Sports Technology. These are taught by specialist teachers and assisted with practical lessons to aid understanding of the course content. The A level is assessed via two 2 hour written exam papers at the end of the course. Paper 1 and Paper 2 = 70% of the A Level grade. Additionally students are required to submit video evidence of themselves performing or coaching in one main sport combined with a piece of typed coursework analysing their performance. This makes up the final 30% of the overall A-Level.
Students must also be hard-working, enthusiastic, resilient and passionate about sport. They will need to take part in sport regularly outside of school, demonstrating commitment to at least one main sport they will be assessed in. Students will have the opportunity to practice their sports weekly in our extra curricular clubs, including opportunities to coach our younger students.
“A-Level PE is challenging but really interesting and enjoyable. The PE Teachers are enthusiastic and supportive; they design creative lessons to help us understand the difficult theory work.”
The sporting industry has grown massively over the past few years and continues to expand with more links and involvement from the media and sponsorship companies. Sporting events are worldwide and the global market for sport has numerous job opportunities. Previous students have gone on to become Physiotherapists, Midwives, Sports Coaches, PE Teachers, Sports Scientists, Personal Trainers, Sports Psychologists/Rehabilitation Coaches, Sports Photographers, Police officers and many have obtained masters degrees in various fields. We often have our ex-students visit the school to give talks to our PE students about their future pathways.
